These are really useful and convenient. Before these I was using pieces of paper towel -- not very nice after the fact...
Be advised that they balloon out to about close to 10X their size when wet! When dry they maintain that size and just turn hard -- playing re-wets them quickly.
I still need to empty out my chanter after about a half hour of playing, so don't expect these to sop it all up -- however, I highly recommend these. Not My Thing, April 20th, 2012 07:43 pm By: iain McLaughlin(Piper ) Read my other reviews
I have found that both myself and others gave up on these in favour of water traps in our practice chanters. While the sponge works for a while, if you are a really wet blower they tend to fill up and then cause as many problems as they solve. They do work well for some people, but others will just wind up fussing endlessly with the things. Your mileage may vary. I tried these on my Gibson and my McCallum practice chanters. They do ok until they soak fill upwith the moisture, but then you're stuck with it wet. And it stays wet. You have to pull the reed to take it off, but then I've changed my tuning, so I finally gave up on them. , December 2nd, 2010 09:36 pm By: Colum Faris(Piper 2) Read my other reviews
What a great invention. It keeps those nasty drips from ruining your new copy of the Scots Guards. It works! Simple but pertinent!, November 26th, 2010 12:50 pm By: Fred Arnold(Piper ) Read my other reviews
This is a no-brainer. It is simple and works so well. Even with a water trap in your practice chanter, this "sponge" will absorb humidity and grow to prove it! Keeps your playing clean and stops the saliva from leaking down to your fingers from inside the PC bottom section... I ws sceptical when I was given one of these, but not only do they work, they work great. I can play for an hour easily without needing to blow out the PC. I wouldn't go without one now. , September 20th, 2010 08:33 am By: Blair Campbell(Piper ) Read my other reviews
These little devices will amaze you at their ability to wick up moisture and prevent dripping where it’s not wanted. My practice chanter reed always has one attached. Reed Aborb, October 14th, 2009 07:13 am By: flagz2 Flaglor
