My kid's pipes were prepped with black hemp. His first practice chanter had yellow hemp. According to my son, the black hemp is significantly better. Since purchasing this product, he has changed all his yellow hemp to black hemp. Easy to work with and doesnt sqell like the yellow hemp. Beefy and very waxy, February 21st, 2014 08:16 pm By: David Locky(Piper ) Read my other reviews
Very beefy hemp, at least compared to the waxed yellow. It appears to be almost too waxy, and indeed, it is more grippy than the yellow. I use it on my drone tuning pins because I don't like to see the yellow hemp on the black pins! Works well on chanter stocks, too. If you don't already have this in your pipe case, why not? The day WILL come when you will need it. The black waxed hemp is perfect for things that need to stay put. I use it on my Kinnaird Drone Reeds and it works like magic... Black magic. How did I live without this?, April 1st, 2011 11:31 am By: Peter Hraber
Waxed hemp is a simple yet major technical advance for pipers. Because unwaxed hemp will expand and contract with variation in humidity, it should be sealed where it will be exposed to moisture. This does the trick, without the use of messy black wax. Great Buy, January 18th, 2011 06:22 pm By: Brayden Hamoline(Piper ) Read my other reviews
It is 100% worth the extra money for the waxed hemp. This Hemp is amaizing. A++ Sticky!, November 26th, 2010 02:22 pm By: Fred Arnold(Piper ) Read my other reviews
Thicker, sturdier and more gooey than the yellow waxed hemp, this hemp is awesome. On an aesthetics point of view, some could prefer it to the bright yellow showing on the drones. , September 20th, 2010 08:35 am By: Blair Campbell(Piper ) Read my other reviews
Don’t waste your time with unwaxed hemp, this is far superior. , October 2nd, 2009 04:24 pm By: Graeme McCombe
Waxed black hemp is my favorite hemp - it can be used virtually anywhere and will always be reliable. hemp, November 9th, 2008 11:23 am By: Ryan Ohare

Very good and quite sturdy. , October 7th, 2008 09:07 pm By: Shawn Husk
I prefer to use black hemp on my drone stock tenons because it gives a good tight fit that will stay put when I'm tuning my drones. I also use this hemp on my chanter and I never have to worry about it popping out on me during a performance. A+++ Hemp, October 7th, 2008 01:34 pm By: Danielle Degoski(Piper 2) Read my other reviews
