The Piper's Pal Reed Protector functions as a reed protector with the added benefit of a humidity control system. The rod keeps humidified air surrounding the chanter reed. Absorbs moisture when reed is wet. Provides moisture when reed is dry.
With the Piper's Pal your reeds will:
- Always be ready to play
- Stabilize quickly and remain stable when played
- Store indefinitely and be restored to playing condition in minutes
- Break in quicker with minimum effort
- Last longer and minimize mold and mildew.
Review from Field Marshal Montgomery's P/M Richard Parkes MBE:
"I have recently starting using the Pipers Pal Reed Protector and have been impressed with its ability to help stabilise the chanter reed from the beginning of a practice session.
I normally play my pipes for a few minutes and leave them down to allow the moisture to penetrate into the reed to allow it to stabilise. Using the Pipers Pal Reed Protector I don’t need to do this and I find that the reed remains more stable throughout the practice session. This is beneficial in the band practice scenario where it reduces the time it takes for reeds to get to a stable condition and aids the tuning process."

Tone stability of the chanter reed is much increased, even with less 'warm-up' An absolute must have, December 3rd, 2018 09:58 am By: Ryan Moore
Seriously ... once you're finished playing, popping it in the cap is a must. Nowadays, even if I go a week without playing I can take it out and nearly confidently know it'll work with minimal playing/warming up.

I seems to have helped my new reed play. I purchased a refill kit for my older one as well. Installation was a snap, next refill I will work over paper instead of the table cloth. Never sounded better!!!, April 26th, 2017 09:29 am By: James Haslip(Piper IV) Read my other reviews
Never used a humidity system before, and after a few days to get everything balanced in the system- my pipes have never sounded better!
Paired with the Pipers Pal it can't be beat! Great product, June 15th, 2016 11:32 am By: Robert Miller(Piper 4) Read my other reviews
This is my third Piper's Pal Reed Protector. I appreciate the product very much and find it meets all my expectations. I use it on chanters I play less frequently and find the reed performs very well with very little fussing or blowing in to get a solid performance. Clever wee gadget! Excellent Cap, March 23rd, 2016 08:55 am By: Dennis Duncan
This has already shown positive results on my reeds. They seem more stable and ready to play. One word of caution do not insert the rod into the chanter too hard it will get stuck and it is difficult to get out without the tip coming off. This is a must have in dry climates. My start-up time has decreased markedly after I started using it. Should likely have a few of these but they are not cheap. The Pipers Pal reed case might be a good alternative. Great product -- nice Canadian innovation! Great Cap for Your Reeds, September 7th, 2013 05:55 pm By: John Dennis(Piper ) Read my other reviews
This chanter cap is a must for all of us in dry climates, or in particular for me, in the winter in conditions where forced air heating dries out wood and cane horribly. Protection plus humidifying makes this a must for all pipers! Best reed protector out there!, July 22nd, 2012 10:38 pm By: ralph drew
I have had this chanter cap for over 6 years and has served me well. I particularily love the stopper that isolates the reed from the outside environment completely. Highly recomended!!! , July 21st, 2012 11:40 pm By: steven hill
Great product for keeping your chanter reed balanced. Just remember to check and keep the granules moist! Great Time Saver, April 1st, 2011 10:57 am By: Peter Hraber
My band practices in a high and dry climate. Moisture variation has been a big problem for us while tuning and playing in. The Piper's Pal minimizes variation across our reeds and really simplifies the tuning process. We spend less time tuning and more time playing. One very nice touch is that the rod inserted below the reed is solidly built, not of thick wire (which would bend) but of a fiber composite, which does not bend. Keeps your chanter reed moist enough to play, but dry enough to prevent mould from forming, all the while protecting the reed from physical damage. A great product! Excellent product, September 1st, 2010 03:03 pm By: Ian Richmond(Piper ) Read my other reviews
This is a great product. It works as advertised. I was so impressed with my first one that I bought a second one and now have one for each of my band and solo chanters. must have, September 1st, 2010 12:34 pm By: Sue Brannon
I insist that all my students purchase this for their pipe chanter. I have mainly kids and this is a full proof way of making sure that their pipe reed will be functioning when needed A must have, September 1st, 2010 11:58 am By: Andrew Stewart(Piper 4) Read my other reviews
This thing helps my reed settle in at least 15 minutes earlier than it would normally. Our Pipe Major has supplied that band with them and insists that every piper in the band use one of these A must for all pipers, October 13th, 2009 02:40 pm By: Patricia Costello
This is a great idea. I can pick up my pipes and play them now. Before I purchased the Pipers Pal, I couldn't. It keeps the reed perfect every time. , October 2nd, 2009 04:13 pm By: Graeme McCombe

This product is an excellent idea and very functional. My daughter's playing reed is always ready to play. Easy to use, even for a teenager! Excellent Reed Protector, October 15th, 2008 11:20 pm By: Jesse Callender
Combining the functionality of a chanter cap with the usefulness of a humidity control system, this product is a must have for any level of piper. It allows the user to enjoy the benefits of the humidity control system while leaving the reed seated in the chanter decreasing the amount of handling the reed is subjected to while keeping it in a playable condition. These features combined with a clean design and high-quality materials make this a great addition to any piper’s case. , October 7th, 2008 12:43 pm By: Cherie Storozinski(Piper ) Read my other reviews

This is an excellent idea. Very well made chanter cap with a moisture control device in the top to keep your reed in top condition. A+
