Ok.. so if you have read my other reviews, you will notice I know nothing about pipes. However, my son loves them and everything about them. He started with a poly practice chanter but had the opportunity to move into this one. The sound difference is amazing. I would not have thought the sound would be that much different between a poly and a blackwood, but it is. This is his favourite chanter. It gets used every single day. Great quality at a great price. You can look elsewhere for one, but why? With a great price and customer service, I wouldn't order from anywhere else

Very nice chanter, feels right in the hands and has some weight to it. Be careful if you get the nickel sole because it's heavy, and likes to come off if dropped for any reason. Very small amount of epoxy works great.

I have tried this reed, my friend sent the chanter to the maker and had them tailor made a reed for their chanter. That being said, the reed did not tune at all in this chanter. The G was incredibly sharp and made balancing this chanter impossible.

I must confess to really enjoying this reed. It\'s just a lot less trouble than cane reeds, and while it doesn\'t sound as good as cane to my ears, it\'s actually a little bit fun to play. A cane reed it is not, and it can be extremely unstable on F and high G depending on how it\'s set in the chanter seat. It makes a bit of a challenge when it comes to playing in tune. The \"easy\" reed is also kind of scary easy. Wouldn\'t use it for anything important, but it\'s fun to mess around with.

I picked up a set of these kitchen pipes for our band to loan to students "in between" the practice chanter and the full highland bagpipe. This allows students to learn to blow and squeeze and play with drones, but still be cost efficient and able to play indoors. Fun to play, they do take a little time to set up as the drone reeds are practice chanter reeds. Experienced pipers may have to learn to not blow too hard or the drones will shut off. Great for practice and for students.

I've used these to oil my bores. Excellent product. The biggest advantage it has over the wool mop type drone brushes is that it doesn't leave any fuzz behind. The wool brushes sometimes do. Especially if you haven't oiled in a long time.

This is excellent wax! It's an absolute must have item for hemping up your tuning pins. Simply use dry yellow hemp and coat the first foot of hemp with this stuff. If you do you will never have the hemp on your tuning pins rotating around on you, and you should never have to hemp again! Excellent item! A+++

I used this reed successfully in a Dunbar Elite II and, of course, a Shepherd MKIII. I liked it as much as my Gilmour until I stored it improperly and it got moldy. As with the Gilmour, I had to sand the Shepherd Easy a little to bring it down to my beginner strength but it remained very stable. Recommended.

I have found that for setting up fairly new pipers, these reeds are economical and yet easy to play. Easy to set up and adjust, the Selbie's sound exceptionally good in McCallum, Dunbar and MacLellan drones. The inverted bass tongue also makes strike ins so much easier for many pipers. Great price and great sounding. Many players in our band use this brand.

I love these Edge drone reeds. They literally saved my 2017 McCallums from being sold off, as I was never really happy with my sound. Turns out it was just my previous synthetic drone reeds that I was unhappy with. The Edge reeds have a great bold sound and are easy to adjust the strength with the adjustment key. The consistent strike ins have improved my confidence and I'm in love with my pipes again!

Like many others have said, these do take patience at first. Once you get the hang of them, though, it's quite easy, and you can adjust them to perfectly match your chanter reed. They do everything that is advertised, and indeed, they do sound fantastic. They also make the strike-ins a lot easier and more consistent once they are correctly adjusted. I use these in a Bannatyne hide/synthetic bag with a Ross system, with acetyl drones. There is some moisture that accumulates in the drones after awhile, but I have not experienced a single stoppage or other issue due to moisture. This design really is a breakthrough for making the instrument easier to play, while sounding better at the same time. I recommend these over any other drone reeds on the market, especially if you are a beginner or play an easy setup.

I have had these reeds since about the middle of August and have played them almost every day.I am currently using them in Naill drones with an ABW Sinclair chanter and a Shepherd reed and without a doubt this is the best sound that I have ever attained with synthetic reeds. The bendable tongue adjustment is revolutionary for setting the exact strength that you want to match your chanter reed and the set screw in the nose cone for fine tuning pitch that has been a hallmark of Rob's reeds since the original version of Kinnaird Reeds came on the scene works equally well. I just played for 45 minutes and these reeds handled the moisture build up without any shut offs.I am using a tube water trap in a Canmore hybrid bag. Hats off to Rob for this innovative design!

I am so satisfied with my Kinnaird evo reeds, that I decided to get a set of the new edge drone reeds for my other pipes, which are McCallum. NO sacrifice in tone at all when set up easy, as opposed to other reeds from moving the bridle. However, it can be quite tricky to set up properly, a ton of patience is required, the tenor reeds were easy enough, but the bass drone requires LOTS of adjusting, as it was quite temperamental and would only howl and nothing else depending on the adjustment, atleast in my McCallum drones. So, if you are a beginner like me, I suggest you get your teacher/instructor to help with your setup and adjusting, again these reeds require much more patience to set up then conventional reeds in my experience. The great tone, and efficient setup is DEFINITELY worth it though! And so I give it a 5/5! Fantastic product :-)

I have consistently used Kinnaird reeds in my pipes and have found them to be stable, air-efficient, and easily provide a big sound. I had been looking for a drone reed that would play in my Burley bagpipes that would be able to reach low enough in pitch that I could play an old Hardie chanter at Bflat. Although the first version of the KCF came close, the new Edge reeds provide the ability to vary in pitch from Bflat to modern pitch in the same set of drones. And the sound is simply cane-like amazing. Moderate buzz and keeps the harmonics to a steady range, while being air efficient. This is the reed I have been looking for. Thanks to Rob and the crew for another excellent product!

Don't waste your time with the flapper valve! It will bend, get out of place, get stuck to the blowpipe, etc. Get the Lil' Mac Valve instead...easy to push in and install, air will get through easily when you blow to fill up your bag and play. Cheers!

Simple and effective. There is simply no easier way to get your blowpipe valve working right. Just stick this in the bottom and you are good to go. The diameter is a little smaller than some large bore blowpipes so there can be some very slight restriction but I\'ve never had a problem with this. Also some very small bore blowpipes might require you to ream out the bottom of it in order to install the valve.

So i'm not as heavy a player as I used to be... getting my pipes out a couple times a week, if that. But when I play, I want them to be as ready as possible and these are great for that. Just a little warming up and they're singing. Hardly any tweaks were needed. Definitely an improvement over the originals these have a definitive 'wood sound' to them. I have them in my McCallums with achiltibuie drying system and if anything I need to tweak those things more than the reeds (when I'm really playing heavily for say July 4th parades, those things really let the moisture through)

I'm new to piping, I placed these in my drones and they seem to do the job well. I have stopped making unintentional strange noises from my drones. Kinnard provided wonder support. My base drone just stopped working due to a bring bridal breaking. One pleasant call and they sent replacements. The drones sound great when played by my pipe sgt. at this point I'm happy to sound.

The reeds are awesome! Very worthwhile the investment. The only thing I did not take into account is the additional custom clearance costs of E 30,- :-( But, I am going to start saving money for a spare set of drone reeds so if something happens I have them at hand! I never want to play with other drone reeds again! The sound is amazing and I was starting to doubt myself with the former reeds because I was having troubles with the cut off but with my new Kinnaird reeds I am doing fine!!! I am soooo happy!!!!

They've performed perfectly from the very first try, and I play a lot! What are the odds of purchasing a set of drone reeds and not having to tune them in? That seems to have happened when I started using Kinnaird Evolution Drone reeds. I set them up in my Wallace pipes and have never had to adjust them. I was having a fair amount of trouble with the reeds I was using but Evolution reeds have changed my outlook on piping. I often get comments from other band members who say how nice the reeds sound. I couldn't be happier.

I've played the Evolution reeds all year in competition and I've had many compliments about the sound of my pipes. I'm very impressed. The reeds have beautiful tone, are rock steady, and are easy to maintain. I'm probably going to have to buy a second set because my other set of pipes, which don't have Evolution reeds, are borderline unpleasant to listen to now.

I have installed the tenor reeds in my 2007 Naills, with a Canning bass. Just a great sound, and just what I was looking for in a tenor drone reed. Louder, more buzz without being overly so, and very air efficient. Excellent harmonics once the pipe is in tune. Very steady indeed. Strike ins are a snap, and cut offs the same. Just a great product, and a fine improvement based on the previous edition. I have bought a second set for my Atherton MacDougall model, and am getting a third set as a back up. I will try the bass drone reed soon, and get back to you when I do. Well done, Rob!

I've got my set of Kinnaird Evolution a couple of months ago (got them from Gordon MacDonald, of Island Bagpipe, who should also get a 5-star review from me!). I'm using them with my Peter Henderson drones. They worked fine inmediately when I set them in, no tweaking needed at all. Bold and robust bass drone sound, tenors blending perfectly, nice harmonics, easy to lock on, and they *stay* in tune. I like them for both solo and band playing (especially for solo, though!). So far, my best piping-related purchase of 2013.

These reeds meet all my criteria, however they have one drawback in my opinion, and that is they are rather buzzy. In speaking with Rob, he believes this is an effect of the pronounced overtones of having made the reeds brighter. No doubt there is more tenor presence and the bass is a bit deeper than the older model, but it comes at the price of the buzziness. Other than that, the reeds are excellent. Air efficient and generally work very well, plug and play as expected.

I just finished setting up the new Evolution reeds in my Dunbar blackwood bagpipe, and I am so impressed with the design and sound produced. The tenors in particular are brighter sounding, and with the bass reed, my drones filled the room. Big, bold, easy to set and adjust....these are great reeds. Going to have to order a second set for my Kron's. Fantastic plug and play reeds that handle moisture well, and make cut offs so easy. Way to go Rob!

These reeds are phenomenal! Bright and clear tone, and very little blowing-in to speak of. Probably the best made, most co-operative reed I have played yet. You can tell just by the composition and construction of the reed that it reflects pride of workmanship. These handle moisture pretty good, but sound and play nicer on the dry side, so I have my chanter hooked up with the Ross system. Some crowing on the high A is to be expected, but it's easily removed by delicately sanding the blades.

I live in a small apartment and this is a great option to practice while not disturbing my neighbours. I can change key, if I want, and generally control tuning and volume. I haven't tried the MIDI output yet, but I'm really interested in saving audio files to my computer in the future.

I really love the DEC II. It is fun to play. I can play for hours and that's the point. It can really help. The only negative is that the metronome is not that good and hard to increase and decrease the limited BPS. Need better instructions on the manual on how to use it. Secondly, the DEC II is smaller than a regular practice chanter which makes its harder to hold steady for longer periods of time. Make sure your hands are moist (apply hand lotion) in order for contacts to work.

I played the Deger I for years, with only complaint that it was a hassle to lubricate my fingers all the time (I found pomade for hair works best). When the Deger II came out I was really excited, but it was a disappointment. It has all sorts of special features I don't need, and they didn't fix the contact sensitivity. Also, the sound wasn't has good as the Deger I. So I sold it and stayed with the Deger I. My old Deger I is pretty battered at this point, so I hope that Deger improves the contact sensitivity and goes back to the old tone someday soon. Other that it is a fantastic tool for practice, very unforgiving of crossing noises, and extremely handy for travelers.

These are great for extra practice when a conventional chanter or the full pipes are not an option. I travel an hour each way to my work site by bus. While most passengers use this time to catch up on sleep, I can pull out the Deger and work on exercises or tunes. Found the best solution for the dry skin is Glysomed hand cream.

I bought this because of all the travelling I do; I felt it was a chance to practice on planes, hotel rooms etc. As long as you don\'t mind being stared at in planes, and being stopped in security, it\'s great. Good to carry music with you, some earphones and the battery works. You may need to play Scotland the Brave for someone in security. It\'s always been fun, sound quality and controls are great. My only BUT is, in planes especially, dry skin makes for poor electrical contacts. Hand lotion helps, but you end up really bearing down to make a clear signal. It can be very frustrating dropping out low A\'s or G\'s all the time. Maybe this new model has been improved, I had the previous one which had no sensitivity adjustments. It\'s also fantastic to practice on while watching TV on the sofa with your wife/husband/dog etc as you can get a practice in without bothering anyone. And if you have a cold or sore throat and don\'t feel like blowing, it\'s a great alternative. I\'ve never regretted owning it. I keep it in my car now, plug it into my sound system and practice while in car washes, slow traffic, long lights etc. Too much fun!

I have to say, I like the piper\'s pal reed protector much better. The pellets seemed to dry out much easier in this unit than the reed protector. This also might be due to the fact that I don\'t check the moisture level in this unit as much! I think if it was a little more airtight, you wouldn\'t water it as much.

Again I insist that my students keep this in the pipe case for the back up reeds. Until the new device was provided, I just had a large rubber band around the case to insure it stayed closed and did the job it was designed to do. The case seems to work for all the type of reeds I've used.

I bought one of these to keep my personal reeds (as opposed to the band's reeds) in playing condition. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to close tightly enough, which causes the moisturizing material to dry out very quickly. Also, the method of holding the reed is not very secure. The little plastic pegs are even too thick for some reed staples. On the whole, I have not found it a very satisfactory way to store reeds.

Great Valve, Poor Water Trap

This is a nicely engineered blowpipe (stock) valve but it fails at any real moisture control in the form of a water trap. Only a 'bit' of foam is collected and that needs to be emptied very regularly as the collection space is minimal. Installed as a water trap, i.e., low in the blowpipe stock, it is incompatible with moisture control systems that require the insertion of an elbow to attach a sleeve or hose and bottle/jar. I could only recommend this as an expensive blowpipe valve.

I was initially concerned about the Moose valve and how I thought it may induce cracking in the blowpipe stock. but I know just remove it after each play and swab out the blowpipe as per before. These valves are amazing. So airtight, non-restrictive, and as a water trap, simply amazing. No cannister for me!

I\'ve used a Little Mac for over 20 years, but wanted to try this for its large bore and water-trap abilities. It works as described, was very easy to install, and is a change for the better. I do watch out for damage to the blowpipe stock (splitting wood) from moisture accumulation inside the stock due to the water trap and internal pressure from installation, but the Moose has served me well thus far.

This is what I use and it's fantastic! Air flows easy (one way) and water is neatly trapped. Just remove the blowpipe and invert your stock to let the fluid build-up evacuate. It makes you realize how much humidity could build in the bag and change your tuning. Luckily, this piece is effective!

The Moose valve is awesome. It works like a charm. Easy to insert and remove without taking your blowpipe stock out of the bag. Works as both water trap (only if you want it to) and flapper valve. The case it comes in helps you practice inserting it so you know you are doing it right.

This IS the best valve on the market! Extremely well made and will probably last twice as long as your pipes. It also acts as a very effective water trap. The moisture will condense on the sides of the blowpipe stock wall and will run down and get trapped inside the lip of the Moose valve. You can then simply remove your blowpipe and tip your stock upsidedown and out comes the water. Very very effective! I highly recommend this product! AAA++++

For me and my band, I make sure every piper has a set in his/her sporran for parades and gigs. Why? Should someone have a drone reed fall in to their bag, the quick fix is to plug the drone. Trouble tuning a drone, or a reed misbehaving? Plug the drone prior to your parade or performance. An ounce of prevention here. This is required for my bandmates!

Very beefy hemp, at least compared to the waxed yellow. It appears to be almost too waxy, and indeed, it is more grippy than the yellow. I use it on my drone tuning pins because I don't like to see the yellow hemp on the black pins! Works well on chanter stocks, too.

This has already shown positive results on my reeds. They seem more stable and ready to play. One word of caution do not insert the rod into the chanter too hard it will get stuck and it is difficult to get out without the tip coming off.

My band practices in a high and dry climate. Moisture variation has been a big problem for us while tuning and playing in. The Piper's Pal minimizes variation across our reeds and really simplifies the tuning process. We spend less time tuning and more time playing. One very nice touch is that the rod inserted below the reed is solidly built, not of thick wire (which would bend) but of a fiber composite, which does not bend.

The new plastic package is much easier and practical for use than the old metal tin, and we find in our band that the seasoning lasts for 6-9 months. It is an effective valve for it's price. I suggest you put a bit more money into a better product (Lil' Mac Valve or Moose) to help air be less constricted. That valve is sensitive to the seasoning job and easily comes out of the right spot (or brake) should you not be careful when inserting your blowpipe in the stock.

I recently purchased a set of these ear plugs and found them to be excellent. Apart from doing the job they are designed for, they are not as conspicuous as similar plugs due to their size. I really prefer using the unwaxed hemp but running the strands through beeswax, giving the same properties but much thinner and easier to use and adjust. I have often, in a hurry or quick repair for a band member, combined waxed and unwaxed yellow hemp while hemp a joint, which works well too. Underused and underrated must for your pipe box.

I canâ€™t understand why anyone would use unwaxed hemp any more. Changing moisture levels cause it to swell and then shrink, resulting in joints that are too tight or too loose. Move to waxed hemp, which sheds the moisture, and make your life easier.

This is something every piper needs in his maintenance kit. A chanter can develop a build up of dust and wax and oils from your fingers around the edges of your note holes. This item will let you remove anything like that. I clean my chanter about once a year. The reed seat and throat of the the chanter are very important to keep clean and free of debris as this can have a very negative effect on your chanters tone! A+ item!

There is nothing more confusing than trying to research methods and products to use for maintaining and oiling your ABW pipes; and my pipes are too important to me to risk anything that will damage or harden on them or go rancid. This product takes the guess work out of the process. I don't have to worry about whether its a drying oil, or if I've added too much (or too little) vitamin E to the almond oil. This is easily the cheapest insurance policy money can buy.

Kinnaird Bore Oil is the best I've used in 47 years of piping. I live in an arid area with low humidity and hot summer days. I maintain 3 sets of blackwood pipes and practice chanters, so I go through a lot of oil with two treatments each per year. The Kinnaird product smells good and is readily absorbed into the wood. Other oils get rancid and smell like petroleum products, but this one doesn't. I highly recommend it.

I really like using these when oiling my pipes because I can coat the mop liberally with oil and all the fibers let me get into every nook and cranny of my drones. The only disadvantage of these brushes is that they can leave fibers stuck in your wood. So I don't use these on old pipes that have lots of rough surfaces, for those pipes I like the pull through swabs also available on this site. But I highly recommend these brushes for newer pipes with very smooth bores! A must have maintenance item! A+++

This is an excellent bag cover, the materials are top notch and sizing was PERFECT unlike other covers I\'ve played on. The bag has a zipper along the bottom, which is great since I play a Ross canister bag, and has velcro closure on the back, which keeps the bag\'s zipper out of view, and helps give the cover a really sharp look. After putting it on my pipes it felt like I was playing a whole new instrument, as slipping problems that I\'d had with my last cover were eliminated (thanks to the added dycem patch, which I strongly recommend ordering the cover with) allowing me to play with much less effort. I\'d recommend these covers to any player at any level, and I plan to play only Highland Gear covers in the future.

I usually prefer Ross bags as Bannatyne bags tend not to put my blowpipe anywhere near my face, no matter what I do. This bag is as advertised, slightly larger than a small with some of the 'belly' removed allowing you to have more freedom with your top hand. I researched this bag and Willie M stated that he also had the grommet cow the blowpipe repositioned and angled. While not as well placed as I find the Ross bags, this one is better, for me at least, than the standard bannatyne. So far I'm liking it and it's more comfortable to play than a medium.

I purchased the hybrid version for my solo pipe, hoping to alleviate some of my left forearm stress I sometimes feel with my Ross bag. This bag did the trick. Comfortable, not too large, and the cutaway allows more freedom of movement. Bottom zipper is great too. I do caution you have a moisture control system: the bag retains a lot of moisture. I got this chanter as I did not care for my wallace chanter. The mccallum felt more sturdy and better made it also sounds better adn I feel as if my fingers fit the holes just that much better. The ergonomics of this bag leave much to be desired. It has two primary faults. #1 the natural position of the chanter is sticking out requiring you to have to hold the chanter in place. #2 the grommet for the blowpipe is of a style where it just sets in the groove of the stock allowing no repositioning. This would be find except it doesn't put the mouthpiece anywhere near your mouth. The prevalence of these bags is probably responsible for all the blowpipes coming out with ball and socket joints to get around the blowstick angle problem. Probably also why Willie McCallum collaborated with them to design his own style bag. $5 it doesn't have these two major problems.

Recently I recalled a wonderful hard candy I used to eat when I was a child 60 years ago, and fortunately one of my brothers remembered that they were called Taveners. I recalled only the shape, the fruit flavors, and the fact that they were packed with powdered sugar to prevent sticking. Imagine my surprise when I found them on the internet at a bagpipe supplier in Saskatoon! Anyway, after I was unable to complete my order online, Kinnaird contacted me and offered assistance and later even gave me free shipping for my troubles. I'm not a fan of drone plugs and when I did play them, I had harder times starting as you have to overcome the pressure needed to open the flap before air gets to your drone reeds. Same reason it helps with stops. The product is worth 4/5 for quality but it gets 2/5 cause not really helpful all around.

I tried these. They do work well to stop your drones from trailing off if you let off too soon but they do cut down on your drone volume quite a bit, especially your bass. For that reason you have to set up your pipes louder to compensate. Well made and durable however.

By far the best material for pipe cords, silk is hardy, handles moisture well, looks nicer than wool with the sheen coating, and does not stain as easily as wool. Couple these with pull ties for ease of tie in and adjustment. After a couple of weeks from the first tie in, revisit the cords to see if they are as tight as first tied on, and remove or reposition the cord pull ties. Great way to dress up a bagpipe.

The ease to adjust the blowstick is great, wide bore and oval mouthpiece comfortable, but I have an issue with the Little Mac valve. Run a swab through a blowstick and you can damage the flapper seat, and once broken these can be easily fixed. And a partially functional one can\'t be used with a basic flapper valve at the end of the blowstick as the two pressure changes interfere. So not a fan of the Little Mac valve.

Mine came with my used pipes and was over three years old at the time. It was played regularly in a band during that period and to me there appears to be absolutely no wear or tear. The zipper is still completely air tight and the bag looks new. Since mine is an older bag, the moisture control system in it consists of an elbow and a synthetic soft tube with a nylon-like material on the outside, a fibrous-like material on the inside, supported by an internal plastic coiled wire. I am a wet blower and so far so good for moisture control. I just open the bag up after playing and pull the hose end out to dry. I recently played some pipes with a Ballantyne with the hide exterior and it is indeed more comfortable and a little less slippery. When my current Bannatyne goes I will likely purchase the hide version with the zipper. Until then, this is a rock solid basic bag with the convenience of a zipper -- highly recommended.

While maybe not to the same standards as a custom setup from a small maker, these pipes are a real instrument that hold their own. I love the fact that I can toss these in a suitcase to go with me anyplace and I don't have to worry. I love sitting on my porch on a nice summer evening playing. The chanter is a bit "practice chanter" in sound but true of scale. My drone reeds did need a bit of fiddling when first purchased despite the warnings to leave them alone. The A tenor just would not tune without some reed work. Since then, not a problem.

The Walsh smallpipes are a great way to enjoy learning tune fingering, breath control and inside entertainment where even the off notes don\'t sound all that bad. The super simple plastic chanter and drone reeds require almost no tuning, are relatively unaffected by heat and humidity, and produce a sweet pipe sound. They take a surprisingly large amount of blowing to initially fill that bag, like a GHB, but once going require very little air providing a more relaxing and longer practice than the GHBs. Striking in and cutting off is a bit trickier with a tendency to squeak as the bag is huge relative to the air used. Plan ahead! The lack of full moisture removal means that who knows what is growing in that bag. Personally I take everything apart to dry it as best as possible since the bag doesn\'t open. I also tape off the middle tenor drone as I find the combination of the alto and bass a crisper sound and less air is required. I prefer this sound to the shuttle pipes which I find a bit kazoo-like, but listen to sound files here or at Walsh\'s website. Great instrument to play with a bodhran, whistle, guitar, violin or voice as the balance (maybe not the key though) is appropriate. Release your inner Celtic pub band!

I have been using the Kinnaird Kanister Moisture Control system for several years. I found that the tube and bottle supplied with Bannatyne hybrid bags was just not sufficient for me, so I tried the Kinnaird system. It works really well. I like that it connects to the blowpipe stock, so that the inside of my bag stays dry and I have nothing attached to my drones. My only complaint with it, and the reason I give it 4/5 instead of 5/5, is that the desiccant balls give off some dust that has to be cleaned from under the drone reed tongues occasionally.

The Kinnaird moisture control system is very simple to install and is the most effective moisture control system that I have tried. After extended blowing sessions there is no noticeable moisture inside the pipe bag and virtually none on the drone reeds. Concerns about moisture build up effecting reed performance during long playing sessions are practically eliminated when this system is installed. Maintenance of the system is easy (just follow the enclosed instructions). Any negatives such as increased weight (minimal), or system maintenance (also minimal)are greatly offset by the improvement in moisture control and the resulting benefit of more worry free playing. Highly recommend this product.

I'm a fairly dry blower but still having some moisture problems after a long morning of competition. I wanted something simple and fairly maintenance free. After looking at all the options and trying a couple other products this seemed to fit my needs. The canister attaches directly to the blowpipe stock. No other hoses to come loose. No other hoses to interfere with air flow to the drones or chanter. It works well in a hide bag with seasoning and the microb-resistant tube so far has been easy to keep clean and sanitary which is more than I can say for the tube trap I tried. I noticed an instant improvement in the steadiness of my pipes after long sessions. Highly recommended.

Being a very "wet blower", this product has aided my piping greatly. I noticed a huge improvement immediately over other moisture control systems I've tried, and I got used to the extra weight quickly. I can play much longer without worry about wet reeds and having an extra kanister on hand makes for a quick change if necessary.

Great product for keeping your reeds dry. It is a little heavier than some systems though but this can be good when playing a lighter, synthetic bag. It gives your pipes a little more balance. Some have complained it is a little air restrictive but you can take some of the pellets out to make the air flow better and reduce weight!

I installed a large Kanister a year ago (in a large L&M Scotian) I blow wet enough so was looking for something to dry the air rather than just dropout the moisture. The Kanister does the job. After a good blow, the inside of my pipe bag is dry. The Kanister; however, is heavy and it adds a bit of drag to the air-flow. It takes a little getting used to. After getting used to the weight, I've had no problems handling my pipes. I have only one container of desiccant so I've been drying it by microwave with no problems. A potential problem could be the lock ring holding the hose assembly to the inside of the Kanister cap. It appears to be a high carbon steel and is rusting. As most of the system seems to be commercially available stuff, hopefully a replacement ring is easy to find when the rusting gets too advanced.

If you have a Bannatyne bag, it seals in ALL the moisture from your breath. This will eventually wreak havoc with your drones, and worse yet, cause wooden pipes to crack and split. Do NOT try to cut corners by rationalizing that you are a â€˜dry blowerâ€™, there is no such thing with a Bannatyne bag. This Kanister system is worth every penny, both for protecting your pipes, and for making your playing sessions more enjoyable.

This system is great in a Bannatyne hybrid bag. I purchased a second canister and alternate them. That way, they dry out completely between uses. I also play a small Gannaway bag (without grommets) and regret that the Kinnaird system does not fit into that bag. The neck is just not wide enough to allow for its installation.

I absolutely love this product! Simple and effective moisture control. Who could ask for more? The zeolite spheres inside absorb all the moisture you can put into this thing and it keeps your pipes completely dry. They are easily \"recharged\" ie. dried out by leaving the canister out overnight, or if you are more in a hurry by microwaving them. Very well made and durable product. A+++

Best Bag I've Used

I absolutely love this bag. The suede gives it all the advantages of hide: great feel, better control, non-slippery, and easier starts and stops without any of the maintenance hassles. The bag is highly breathable, perfect for a wet blower like me. After a playing session with just a Moose valve and tube water trap combination the drone bores and all the reeds are nice and dry. The angled zipper keeps it out of your way. As an added bonus there was definitely an enhancement in the tone of the instrument over the Bannatyne bag I was using previously. The only minor issues I ran into were sealing the blowpipe stock in the collar (which I had to use a bit of putty to get an airtight seal kind of like on the old-fashioned tie-in bags) and the backward angle of the drone stocks was a bit uncomfortable at first. I got used to it, but some might not like this. That said, these are as I said minor issues and more annoyances than anything that do not affect the performance of the bag. In short: I wouldn't use any other bag. The Ross is the best of all worlds.

I have to agree with my uncle John that these bags are great. I like the feel of the suede, and the moisture passes through unlike some other bags. With a moose valve, I don't need anything else. Another plus is how easy it is to install.

After trying several different synthetic pipe bags, both hybrid and non-hybrid, finally selecting the new Ross suede pipe bag has made my playing so much more enjoyable and consistent. I have 3 of these on each of my sets of pipes, and find them the most comfortable pipe bag yet. What is even more significant to me is the moisture control ability. I play without a cannister but with moose valves, and the suede material lets some moisture pass. Being a wet blower, the reeds stay dry. The bag also has a sheepskin feel and vibrates well. What a fantastic find for me and many others in my band.

I have found that both myself and others gave up on these in favour of water traps in our practice chanters. While the sponge works for a while, if you are a really wet blower they tend to fill up and then cause as many problems as they solve. They do work well for some people, but others will just wind up fussing endlessly with the things. Your mileage may vary.

I confess... I'm a biter. Before I got these my dentist saw the wear on the back of my top front teeth and said "there's a bit of wear here... I have another patient with the same thing - he's a bagpiper." Busted. They protect your teeth, and the black ones look nicer than the yellow tubing which you'll often see. Cheaper than new teeth.

Yes, you can get cheaper ear plugs, but these allow you to hear far more clearly while still reducing the volume. They can be a little tricky to insert, I find I need to grab the top of my ear while inserting these, and it helps if they are moistened before insertion (condensation from a cold beverage is enough). They took a bit of getting used to as they are a little more snug in my ears than some other kinds, but totally worth it for the clarity.

These thing are great. They also come in a slightly smaller size called Baby Blue for those little people out there. Good for playing indoors as it not only saves your hearing but cuts out all the reverb so it sounds more like you are playing outside. Also, I have the one with the water trap in the top which makes life so much easier for me since I am a very wet blower! When I first started learning bagpipes I didn't want to have to fight with my gear. I went to the Dunbar practice chanter because of its reputation for being durable and reliable. I was not disappointed. Another fine Canadian product. I never have to fiddle or fuss with it. I chose the full size which translates quite well to the bagpipe chanter. I highly recommend getting a water trap in there as well. Saves a lot of hassles.

Having played so many different types of synthetic drone reeds over the past decade, I finally decided in the summer of 2012 to give the Kinnairds a try. Truthfully, I have not looked back. I have three sets in use right now, and find my strike ins and cutoffs never better. They are easy to adjust and set up and provide a great cane like tone. I find they work best in wide bore drones, but with the ability to order the lower pitched bass, even narrow bore drones can benefit.

I oplay a rather old set of Kilgour Kron pipes, with the notorious "soft and quiet" bass drone... nothing could make it sound the way I wanted/needed it to without boring out the drone, not even opening up reeds to take a tonne of air. got the Regular bass drone reed, from Kinnaird, problem solved.... Plug and Play? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!! got this reed the DAY BEFORE leaving for competition and the improvment was so drastic, and perfect that the guy tuning the bands jaw hit the grass... Air Efficient? OH YEAH! i was surprised that with such a "big flappy" tongue that the reed didnt require more air, but i was stunned to discover that it uses less air and isnt as touchy as my tenors (currently EZEE for the tone). I will certainly be purchasing the Tenors to match and finally be done with EZEE and Selbies... to sum it up, if youre not hearing Kinnaird Reeds, your not hearing what drones are supposed to sound and feel like.

I've been using Kinnaird Carbon Fibre Drone Reeds for about 5 years. They are used in two sets of pipes - a set of David Glen cocus wood pipes and a set of 1960 black wood Graingers. I'd been having trouble getting tenor drones to tune high enough on the pins (tried at least 5 different non-cane makes). During a chat at a local Highland games, Rob mentioned that he had a sharper tenor reed variant for old pipes. It made sense so I bought a set. I'm afraid my ear isn't good enough to comment on tone, but my Kinnairds are steady, adjustable and rarely quit. Our band's tuners have always commented favourably on their sound. One thing to watch. If you use any amount of force at all, I'd advise taking the tuning tops off when seating the reeds. I cracked the thin side of my bass' top end early on (although a bit of krazy glue and some carefully placed wrapping have kept the reed workable and the top in place ever since).

Great tone from these Kinnaird drone reeds. The bridle is very steady, although it is hard to slide down for minor adjustment: it tends to roll over in bigger increments. I find, comparing with buddies with the same reeds, that the bass drone reed needs particular care for remaining in the drone socket. Besides that, the setup is easy, the adjustments with the allen key do make a difference and are user friendly. Wiping off humidity after long play is simple and there are no worries about how gentle to be with the tongue. Highly recommended as they are 1 element you will trust about your pipes!

I purchased a set of these reeds from another vendor about two weeks ago. I just had an audition for my pipe band and more than one person came up to me to ask which drone reeds I'm using. The ex pipe major said in his own words "You're instrument sounds incredible" With the other reeds I used (MG/ Shepard SM90) I really struggled with clean starts and stops. These Kinnaird reeds solved all that. Thay also seem to be more steady sounding, have a much richer tone, and take less air than the other drone reeds I've used. They sound simply beautiful in my McCallum pipes. It's as if these reeds brought my pipes to life. If you're reading this because you're in the market for new drone reeds these are hands down a great investment. You won't be dissappointed! I'm sure not!!! These reeds are worth their weight in gold!

I replaced my solid set of Shepherd drone reeds with these. Although a bit pricier, once the brief "breaking in" period was over I'm impressed with how they lock in and hold a pure tone. There is a slight tendency to double-tone a bit upon warming up but within minutes everything is stable. Great sound, and I opted for the deeper bass which balances nicely against the tenors. Maybe the last set of drone reeds I'll ever buy?

Unlike the last reviewer, I find this tape so easy to use and works better than most tapes I've tried. I am the primary tuner in our band, and every piper has at least two pieces of this tape on his/her chanter sole for me to slap on quickly. Last reviewer stated it slid down over the hole, but realistically, the tape needs to be changed often to make it effective. Great product.

I've used this tape for 3 months now. I have discovered that after it has been on the chanter for a few weeks, it leaves a lot of residue and, if the piece of tape has been moved a couple of times, the adhesive becomes gooey. The other day, for the first time in many, many years, I had a piece of tape -- THIS tape -- slide down over the hole as I was playing. In summary, there are better and cheaper tapes available.

This is my all time favorite chanter. It is simply perfect in every way! Easy to reed, great volume, excellent solo sound (lots of tone without being harsh at all). The top hand on this chanter is absolutely brilliant, just so clean and clear sounding. The pitch is perfect, 476. I really love the shape of the neck as well, it swoops up from narrow to wider at the very top, feels great under the fingers. Ezeedrone reeds are the staple of many a band. In my band, over half the players use these reeds. Easy to adjust, easy to set up, and maintenance free. Many people use the tenors along with a cane bass to get an optimal sound. I find the reeds a little finicky for strike ins for some newer players, and would suggest the inverted bass drone reed to cure some of that issue.

Basically a staple in most pipers drones over the last decade. The tenor reeds are unmatched for stability and ease of set-up. They produce nice harmonics and are adjustable enough that they will work with most older pipes. While the tenors are the "bee's-knees" the bass is not. The sound produced in my Naills is far to light (an insturment known for a big bass sound). In general the bass is adequate to fill the need but for a higher end sound i would suggest passing on it in favour of a cane bass reed.

My favorite Dunbar poly pipe combo. The P1\'s are just to plain and I don\'t care for the metal on the P2\'s. The P3\'s are virutally a no maintenance bagpipe that I use when I don\'t have to worry about damaging my fancier pipes. They sound drones sound awesome with ezee\'s. If I have one compaint, it is that the stocks are a little more narrow than some other pipes, so you have to tape them up a bit it you use a synthetic bag with wider grommets. I found the moose bag\'s grommets to be the best fit for my P3s.

Good value for the price. I use this with a large bag and Ross Canister system with no trouble at all. It would be nice to have a little more room for music and such, but everything I need fits in nicely if it is carefully packed, and is easy to carry. I have poly pipes, so I\'m not sure I would recommend this case if you have blackwood or other more valuable and delicate pipes as it doesn\'t afford a great deal of protection for them. Overall I am quite pleased with this case.

I\'m a big fan of the ross bags especially the red ross bags but I didn\'t like the new hoses. They tend to kink easily and if your drone stocks are a little larger in diameter, they fall out easier. If you can still find the older ross hoses with the suction cups, they are better in my opinion.

This chanter tunes very well with many different reeds. It has a lot of volume which probably makes it a good band chanter. The oval holes are harder to cover and so it takes some getting used to. Better than 1990\'s Shepherd and 1990\'s Dunbar band chanters I have used in the past. About the same as some Maple Sinclair band chanters I used to play, probably a bit louder though. Newer pipes tune at an increasingly higher pitch, but our band still tunes around 466-468. Drone extenders were required on my new pipes to keep the drones from falling off the end when adjusting. Even if you donâ€™t need drone extenders right now, you might want to keep a set for tuning down to play with another band, or in a mass band situation.

Basically the deluxe matches to performance of any airstream blow-pipe, its huge bore allows you to put air into the bag with minimal resistance. The artifical ivory mount is a nice touch that helps to cover up the replacement part on most pipes. The only complaint I have ever had is that the valve tends to wear out over time, with it being built into the blowpipe it is also harder to clean - mind you neither of these compliants would stop me from buying another.

These really help cut down your drone volume if you've got a set of pipes that are too loud. This can really help if you're tenors are too loud. They also help with cutoffs and moisture control. Good product! If you like a bolder drone sound you will need to set your reeds up to take more air to compensate.

I have a 1/2 silver set and this is all I use to keep my silver polished. It works great. Simply rub your silver with this cloth and it shines right up. No messy polishes to deal with, and it lasts for virtually ever. It will get very black with use but it will still work fine. A+
